About Cyprus

Cyprus is home to just under one million island lovers, with the main languages spoken including Greek and English. The island is comprised of four main cities: Limassol, Larnaca, Nicosia and Paphos with an array of picturesque villages, mountains and the glittering Mediterranean Sea surrounding it.

Known around the world for its amazing climate, clean beaches and enviable hotel infrastructure, the island also has a long history and achievements spreading all the way back to the 10th millennium BC, predating even ancient Egyptian civilization. Many of the prehistoric and ancient ruins, Comprising of Neolithic, Mycenaean, Persian, Roman, and Ottoman influence, are registered UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These important developments of human civilization have been well preserved and can still be visited today.

Cyprus, known as the island of love, is also an important location in ancient Greek mythology. The mighty ‘Rock of the Greek’, sitting on the serene seashore of Paphos, is said to be spot where Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, was born.

The island is a melting pot of culture and charm, seeking to keep its profound heritage alive with cultural events taking place year round. In the summer months these include the Ancient Greek Drama Festival, held inside the extraordinary ancient amphitheaters of Limassol, Paphos and Nicosia, as well as the beloved Dionysian inspired Wine Festival, taking place in Limassol’s Municipal Gardens. In the winter months, there’s the Kypria International Festival of Arts, taking place island wide and showcasing both Cypriot and international art, music, dance and more, as well as the phenomenal, island wide festivity of Carnival that includes eleven days of parades, parties and extravagance.

It’s profound history and culture aside, Cyprus is treasured by so many because of its hospitality. The Cypriot people are famous for their warm hearts and open arms and with the sun shining 350 days out of the year, it’s no wonder we are always smiling!

This and every summer we invite you to be one of us, part of our culture, a guest in our home!
